Open House (Takahashi Family)

Naho Yokoya
Artist Naho Yokoya started her project, "A Story about Takahashi Family" in 2013
and since then has conducted intense research into the historical background
and stories connected to Takahashi House. She has attempted to rediscover
and reconnect the fragmented memories and narratives of the family history
through uncovering artifacts of everyday life left at Takahashi House. Her
emotionally engaging examination of these artifacts including letters and
notebooks is an ongoing work. In "Open Takahashi House", Yokoya will exhibit
a selection artifacts and invites you to set foot in the house and narrative
experiences of the family. This event is concurrent with a related exhibition at
Komyojikaikan. We recommend visiting Komyoji-kaikan prior to "Open
Takahashi House". (The exhibition at Komyoji-kaikan opens Thursday – Monday,
between 14th Nov to 6th Dec)
Takahashi House
Genyo Takahashi (a famous TV screenplay writer now living in Saitama) grew up and lived there until 19?? when he turned twenty years old. Genyo’s father was the owner of the house and the family lived there for 40 years. It had been empty for 30 years and was badly ruined when Yokoya first visited there.
Naho Yokoya (b. 1975, Tokyo) completed her Ph.D. in Fine Art at Tokyo National Art University. Subsequently she stayed in London and Pompeii between 2009-2011. Her activities included research on the ruins of Pompeii and learning bookbinding. Between 2012-13, she lived and worked in Naples for her ongoing, collaborative project "Between Art and Science" She also visited Burkina Faso and Italy in 2014 for the same project. She currently lives and works in Tokyo.
